We will be discussing the Incident Command System (ICS) to understand why and how we use this system in the maritime industry.
Basics of ICS
ICS is a concept that grew from fighting wildfires in California. The intent of this system is to improve emergency response by multiple agencies. ICS serves as the framework for effective cross-jurisdictional coordination when an incident requires response from multiple emergency management and response agencies.
This framework has been used for emergency response in a variety of situations, including from natural disasters such as wildfires, flooding, earthquakes or tornados. ICS can also be used at traffic incidents, train derailments, hazardous material spills, large events, fairs, concerts, parades, hostage crises or terrorist attacks.
This meeting is for people who will benefit from having basic understanding of the general framework, useful terms and major concepts.
Learn about ICS
Our discussion will help you understand the history and basic components of ICS and we will present examples and scenarios for prompting use of the system.
Finally, we will provide you will resource and information on ICS courses and certifications.
