With $8.75 million in funding available, this is a fantastic chance for small shipyards to enhance their operations, boost efficiency, and invest in workforce training. What You Need to Know About the Small Shipyard Grant

Applications Due: May 15, 2025

Eligible Applicants:

  • – Small shipyards operating in a single location.
  • – Must have fewer than 1,200 production employees.
  • – The shipyard must focus on vessels 40 feet or larger for commercial or government use OR construct, repair, or reconfigure vessels 100 feet or greater for non-commercial purposes.

Eligible Projects:

  1. Capital Improvement Projects
    • Projects aimed at increasing efficiency, improving competitive operations, and enhancing the quality of ship construction, repair, or reconfiguration.
  2. Maritime Training Programs
    • Programs centered on developing employee skills and improving productivity in shipbuilding, ship repair, and related industries.
    • While grants are awarded only to eligible applicants, training programs can involve external vendors.
    • Note: Maritime training centers funded under section 51706 of Title 46 in FY 2024 are not eligible for additional grants for training.
